One of our finest traditions here at See It Online is to bring you irresistible and well made web comedy. Today to commemorate Baseball’s 2012 Opening Day, we share this gem from UCBComedy.
We were always pretty sure it goes something like this at First Base.
The hope behind ArtShots is that the clips would highlight artists, arts organizations, and teachers who have touched people’s lives in their community. This entry from Margaret Ma fulfilled on that hope completely. It profiles dance instructor Gayle Greenbrook. Here’s a peek.

The ArtShots competition was conceived to bring audiences a glimpse of the talent that lives within the community’s vibrant art scene. The bonus showed up when the stories told through the ArtShots clips also brought forth the inspiring stories of artists who would not quit.
Tony Smith delivered this clip about an artist who is made for one thing, and that’s what she does. Dalia Rawson brings dance alive. Take a look.

The hope held by the creators of ArtShots was that filmmakers would find inspiration in their arts partners, and that audiences would be inspired by the collaboration between filmmaker and performer.
We have a feeling that audiences will discover that hope having been met by this clip created by Teresa Widdowson and singer/songwriter duo Bev Barnett and Greg Newlon.

The concept of ArtShots was born from a desire to interconnect the indie filmmaking community with the richness of the Silicon Valley arts community. The competition pairs one participant from each community and challenges them to make a 90 second micro-documentary that captures the essence of the artist or arts organization.

ArtShots was originally conceived in partnership between Susannah Greenwood at Artsopolis (now Live SV) and Vincent Lowe from the San Jose 48 Hour Film Project.
Schoolhouse Earth is a nonprofit organization tasked with bolstering education where there is a gap. The organization includes a division designed to provide educational media, an instructional delivery division, and a division tasked with designing the Rapid Response Learning Center for deployment in disaster relief situations.
CreaTV San Jose is a non-profit, public benefit corporation serving the City of San Jose. It supports the use of public and educational access channels (bandwidth) and resources among a wide range of individuals, organizations, and institutions within the City of San José.
The San Jose 48 Hour Film Project is part of the oldest and largest time-based filmmaking competition in the world. Now entering its 6th year in San Jose, the competition challenges filmmaking teams to write, shoot, and edit a short film in just two days. Together with the San Francisco competition (now entering its 10th year), the event is responsible for the creation of nearly 700 short films, many of which have been screened at film festivals that include Cannes, Cinequest, SF Asian American International, Bodega Bay International, Poppy Jasper and others.
The 48 Hour Film Project season for 2012 in San Francisco kicked off with the Colleague Awards.
In this very special event, eight filmmakers who’ve created multiple award winning films in past years were invited to submit their favorite competition film from the past. Of the eight films, seven qualified for awards by submitting their film ready for screening, and by providing a judge from their team to be at the screening to complete a ballot.

The films were seen by an audience with the filmmakers in attendance, and the judge from each team was instructed to complete a ballot that assigned quantitative ratings in several categories. The categories for which ratings were collected were:
Most everyone agreed that it’s nearly impossible to choose between the films in the top tier — but we set out to create awards, so some judgement calls had to be made. Here are the finalists and the awards in each category.

ArtShots is a film making competition in which competitors are paired with prominent artists who become their subject matter. The filmmaker is challenged to deliver a 90 second sizzle reel that captures the essence of the artist or arts organization. They have 2 weeks to compile it.
For 2012, ArtShots expands its mandate to include artists and filmmakers from around the Bay Area. Partnerships with arts organizations and communities stretching from Berkeley to Mill Valley to Santa Cruz to Gilroy allow us to expose artists and filmmakers work to a wide geographic audience.
Registration is free for artists, and $40 for filmmaking teams. Deadline to sign up is Friday, Feb 3.

What happens when you take 8 veteran 48HFP filmmakers from San Francisco and ask them to submit their best films from the past for awards consideration by their peers? We’re about to find out as the 2012 San Francisco 48HFP Colleague Awards ballots are being submitted now.
Friday night in San Francisco (Jan 27, 2012) at the Ninth Street Independent Film Center, eight of the top 48 Hour Film Project veterans from the Bay Area each brought one of their best films to be screened for an audience and rated by their peers for recognition in several categories. (Overall, Cinematography, Editing, Writing, Score, Production Design, Sound Design, Post Production Magic, and Creativity)

Held every Wednesday in Second Life, The Actors’ Sandbox is a tuition-free open enrollment workshop for voice and machinima actors.

Producers of machinima and other forms of animation are welcome to attend and observe. It’s an excellent opportunity to evaluate talent in a context free from the anticipation and tension of an audition.
