How Do The Swedish Come Up With This?

Fans of multiple 48 Hour Film Project award-winner Ovation Pictures will enjoy this sequel to their early film in San Francisco.

Most teams in the competition hate to draw the Western genre, but for this group, it was a challenge that allowed them to build on one of their very first competition films.

We look forward to seeing what this group will produce this summer.

Registration is open now for the San Francisco event (May 31-June 2). Screenings of all the films completed will take place at the Clay Theater.

You Really ARE NOT Going to Believe What Happened

When a band of crooks captures Feargus, the foul mouthed wee Irish fellow, they definitely sign up for more than they can swallow.

Take a look at this delightful entry in the 2010 San Francisco 48 Hour Film Project.

The competition this year will take place May 31-June 2 and the films will screen soon after. Filmmakers are able to register now, and anyone might want to save the dates for the screenings (June 5-13) and the highlights show. (June 30).

Whatever Happened to Old Joe?

Competitors in the 2012 48 Hour Film Project for San Jose were given a required character to include in their movies.  For the 2012 competition, the character supplied was “Joe O’Kane, a commissioner.”

The real-life Joe O’Kane is the former film commissioner for San Jose and he was delighted to have the nearly 30 films contain some version of him as a character.  (The teams made him into a police commissioner, a party commissioner, and a “commissioner of piñata quality assurance.”)

This film was the City Winner, and also Joe’s personal pick for “Best Joe O’Kane”.

The filmmaking team, Fish Eye Films, is known for several standout entries in the Bay Area #48hfp circuit.

Where Do They Really Come From?

In the 2012 48 Hour Film Project for San Jose, all of the teams were required to include a piñata as a prop.

There was a lot of bashing and beating in the theme for many of the movies delivered, but this one brought charm and a peek at the inside life of a piñata to delight audiences.

Short films from all over the world (nearly 120 cities) are screening this week at Filmapalooza in LA, and tonight the winner of the 48 Hour Film Project around the world will be announced.

It’s Everyone’s Responsibility

Someone told us recently that they felt that everyone does a comedy for the 48 Hour Film Project.

The team that made this film (Done in 47) was willing to take on more difficult subject material. They did and it worked out well for them.

They brought home awards for Direction, Acting, and for Cinematography with this entry in the San Jose 48HFP.

Caution: Although tastefully done, this is NSFW and may be too intense for younger viewers.

Defied Expectations

We usually don’t post films over about 8 minutes in length and of course (like much of the rest of the YouTube nation) we tend to have a preference for shorter work.

But when we settled back and gave these young filmmakers our attention for a few minutes, we were amply rewarded.

This movie came to us with the note, “My brother and I thought of this story, then we wrote it down and then we made it into this silent movie.”

I hope you liked it. We did.

At the Top of Your Head

The SF Bay Area indie filmmaking team It Donned On Me has been one most tenacious competitors in the 48 Hour Film Project and the International Doc Challenge.

Their 2011 entry Four Pauls tells a great story about the place a hat deserves in our culture.

Word on the street is that Evan Donn and his crew will be back again this year.  You could compete in the Doc Challenge yourself as registration is now open!  Looks like the Early Bird bonus is still in effect for a couple of more days.

Who Has The Last Laugh

This creepy little suspense was turned in for the San Jose 48 Hour Film Project in San Jose.

The team that created it was competing for the first time and proved right from the opening gun that they were in it for keeps.

That Frugal Vacation

In the many years that the 48 Hour Film Project has been coming to San Jose, there have been a number of films that have considered the issues of their times.

Never has one done such a great job however, at examining the excesses of frugal behavior, as this entry from team Chikinbone.

We found the story to be delicious and we hope you did too.
