Dream On

Some film production companies simply cannot get enough of stress, excitement, challenge, and accomplishment. These are the ones, like Once Upon a Thyme Productions, who keep coming back to the 48 Hour Film Project.

This year in San Jose, the troupe finished what was probably their fifth entry for the competition. Here’s a glimpse:

They put this together on the weekend of Aug 8th, right on the heels of rolling out their acclaimed feature film, Writer’s Cramp. You can see this entry along with a dozen others at the Camera Cinema in San Jose on Aug 20. Tickets are available here.

You Lookin’ At Me?

After nearly twenty rounds in the 48 Hour Film Project, we sort of expect Film Antics to be a well-oiled machine. They’ve produced numerous films that gathered awards including a City Winner for San Jose in 2013, and Best Film finalists in other cities and years.

This time we opted for a closer look, so we agreed to help them on-set and even make a cameo appearance in this year’s San Jose film. Take a peek:

The full movie screens at the  Camera 12 Cinema on Wed, Aug 19 at 7pm. You can find tickets here.

It’s Slobberin’ Time!

The 48 Hour Film Project is back in San Jose!

On the weekend of Aug 8th, nearly two dozen filmmaking teams created new short films and they’ll be shown next week at the Camera 12 Cinema.

Here’s a sneak peek. (That’s what we used to call the trailers. Now it’s just a trailer.)

The filmmakers in this case, Fish Eye Films have participated in  numerous past competitions, and have taken home prizes, including City Winner in 2013. We can’t wait to see what they came up with.

Here’s where you can get tickets.

ArtShots Mixer

ArtShots is a filmmaking competition designed by the organizers of the San Jose 48 Hour Film Project in partnership with Silicon Valley arts community leaders and businesses.

One part filmmaker, one part artist, every bit inspiring

One part filmmaker, one part artist, every bit inspiring

Its intentions are to combine talented filmmakers and artists in a way that brings attention to the work of both. Teams comprised of local independent filmmakers along with prominent artists and arts organizations work to each create a 90-second clip that captures the essence of the artist.

For 2015, the competition will range from May 1st through the 20th. Registration is open now.

A mixer designed to answer questions about the program, and to invite both filmmakers and artists to sign up is being held on Friday at San Jose CreaTV studios. (More information can be found here: http://www.creatvsj.org/news/events-2/)

See It For Real

Okay, we’ve been telling you about cool things to see online for a long time now. (This our 301st post in fact.)

Now there’s going to be a TV series written for movie screens (before the main feature) and for select local broadcast markets. And OF COURSE we’ll release episodes online after the premiere. The series is called Trendinistas, and it’s a panel show about the things that happen in online entertainment. You’re going to love it!

Meanwhile, given the weekend it is, and the fact that we’re going to use this clip in our first episode (taping tomorrow), we thought you should see this:

We hope you’ll become a Trendinista soon. And if you’re in the SF Bay Area, you could be in the studio audience for our next taping in May at the Poppy Jasper Film Festival.

If you’re part of our online audience, then use the comment blocks here (or any other means you know to be in touch with us) to tell us what you think our panelists should be talking about on the show!

When Filmmakers and Artists Collide

Registration for ArtShots 2015 is now open!

It sounds easy enough, but filmmakers who’ve participated in ArtShots tell us it’s more difficult than they imagined. Here’s how it works:

  • We match each participating filmmaker with one prominent artist or arts organization.
  • We give them two weeks to create a 90-second sizzle clip that captures the essence of the artist.
  • Bay Area filmmakers and artists from Berkeley to Santa Cruz, from Santa Rosa to Gilroy are invited to participate.
  • Filmmakers pay a $40 registration fee and are eligible to compete for top prizes. Artists and arts organizations do not pay a registration fee.
  • Completed entries are submitted to the ArtShots jury for consideration to appear in the gala Awards and Highlights show. Top entries may qualify for exhibition in other events and performance venues.

Past ArtShots clips have appeared in theater pre-show entertainment, at film festivals, in online entertainment programming streams, and at community arts events like San Jose’s South First Fridays.

Filmmakers, artists, and arts organizations can register here: http://schoolhouseearthtickets.ticketleap.com/artshots-2015-registration/

Filmmakers will meet their assigned artist at the Kickoff Party on Friday, April 10. They will submit their finished ArtShots entries by April 24. Top clips will be screened at the Awards Gala on May 8th.

ArtShots is sponsored by Cinespots, CreaTV San Jose, and Schoolhouse Earth. Cinespots is a theatrical distribution company that provides pre-show entertainment to cinemas across its broad network. CreaTV San Jose is a broadcast company that provides television programming of community interest and that serves educational needs. Schoolhouse Earth is an education non-profit that produces media and learning events to serve community needs wherever there is a gap.
